Tell your story – where do you work and what do you do? I work as the Director of Marketing at Brouse McDowell, a 90+ attorney firm based in Akron, Ohio with 6 offices and 16 practice areas.  Working with a team of marketing professionals, I lead business development and external communications efforts for the firm and work closely with the Executive Committee and other internal stakeholders to develop and drive firm growth strategies and build brand awareness.

What do you enjoy most about being an LMA volunteer? I have met so many great people and feel a real sense of community among Midwest legal marketers. Also, it has been especially helpful to share ideas with others at firms of similar size, and with similar challenges.

What was the best vacation you’ve ever been on? The best vacation I’ve ever been on was to Antigua, Guatemala. It’s a beautiful town full of Spanish colonial buildings and surrounded by volcanos. On this trip, I traveled to the nearby Lake Atitlan, the deepest lake in Central America, and enjoyed visiting a surrounding Mayan village and learning about the culture of the people there. I also got to hike up the Pacaya Volcano. Overall, it was a great experience!

What are your hobbies? Skiing and traveling

What’s the best career advice that someone has ever given you? Take yourself out of your comfort zone. If you go to a networking event, introduce yourself to someone you do not know, even though it is more comfortable to chat with those whom you are more familiar. If you don’t like to give presentations, start doing more of them to build your skills and confidence. These tools have helped me grow a lot throughout my career.
